Friendly Match Report – Sunday 14th September 2025
Long Crendon Bowls Club vs Bicester Bowls Club
We made the journey to Long Crendon on a rather overcast Sunday afternoon, hoping the rain would hold off long enough for our friendly match with the Long Crendon Bowls Club. Unfortunately, the weather had other plans. After a few ends, the rain intensified, and the match had to be called off as the green became too muddy to continue playing.
With only a few ends played by all five teams in the triples match, the match was officially declared a draw. Everyone then retreated to the clubhouse to dry off and enjoy a drink, along with the highlight of the afternoon—a raffle prize draw.
Despite the wet conditions, the day was still filled with good company and plenty of laughter. We’re already looking forward to next season's match with Long Crendon, hoping for a little more sunshine and a full game. Here's to better weather and a great rematch in 2026!

Bucks West End Bowls Club vs Bicester Bowls Club
On a lovely Sunday afternoon, Bicester Bowls Club made the journey to Bucks West End Bowls Club for a friendly encounter played across six rinks, with teams of three players each. Bicester was led by match captain Gordon Davies, and both clubs were eager to enjoy a spirited and competitive game in the true spirit of sportsmanship.
Despite Bicester’s determined efforts, it was Bucks West End who emerged victorious with a strong overall score of 117 shots to Bicester’s 71. Congratulations to Bucks West End on their well-deserved win, and a big thank you to all players for their commitment and good humour on a green that offered its own set of challenges!
Bicester’s top-performing rink was skipped by Alan Wagner, with Vernon Groves at No. 2 and Marie Roberts leading the way—a well-earned highlight for the visiting team.
It was a genuine pleasure to spend the afternoon with our friends at Bucks West End, and we’re already looking forward to the return fixture next year. Until then, it's back to the greens for more practice, friendly competition, and shared enjoyment of the game.
Well played, everyone—and see you next time!

Bicester Bowls Club vs Bedfordshire Clubs Tour
It’s not every day that Bicester Bowls Club welcomes teams from beyond Oxfordshire, so it was a real pleasure to host the Bedfordshire Clubs Tour for a friendly match on their return journey from Somerset.
The match was played across six rinks, with four players per team, and was captained on the Bicester side by Gordon Davies. Both teams embraced the spirit of friendly competition and good sportsmanship, setting the tone for an enjoyable afternoon on the green.
Despite a strong showing from Bicester, it was the Bedfordshire Clubs who came out on top with a final score of 95 shots to Bicester’s 66. Congratulations to our visitors on a well-earned victory, and well done to all players for a competitive and entertaining match!
After the game, players and supporters were treated to a superb spread of sandwiches and cakes, brilliantly organised by Hazel Kerwin, with help from fellow club members. A big thank you to Hazel and her team – the refreshments were as much a highlight as the match itself!
It was a genuine pleasure to meet and play against the Bedfordshire touring teams, and we very much look forward to a return fixture in the future.
Well played, everyone – and see you next time!
